The beach is in a well-protected bay in the northwestern part of the island, and has calm waters. Swimming here is great and very safe for children.

A very nice long beach with gravelly brown sand, awesome crystal-clear water and a popular beach bar. There are sun beds to rent but also plenty of free space for those who want to set up their own umbrella or lay their towel on the sand.

Access is easy and there is ample parking space. Along the coast, there are several tamarisk trees for shade and a few traditional tavernas where you can eat fresh fish and delicious Greek food. Surrounded by low hills, this beach offers a splendid view to the endless blue of the Aegean and to Kolona beach in the horizon.

Apokrousi is probably the second most beautiful beach in Kythnos after the famous Kolona beach. It is located 9,2 km from the port of Merichas and 4,4 km from Messaria, the capital town of the island. Reaching the beach is fairly easy. You can travel by car or boat from Merichas port or you can take the bus which runs from Messaria to Merichas and vice versa. Taxis are also available to hire. The beach is well protected by the strong north prevailing winds and is a very safe anchorage for sailing boats. On a small hill to the south of the beach is the archaeological site of Vryokastro. In antiquity, Vryokastro was the capital of the island and excavations there have revealed important findings providing valuable information on the island’s past.

On the right-hand side of Apokrousi, there is a narrow dirt road that leads to a beach called Fykiada with clear deep sea water, while another narrow dirt road leads to the island’s most famous Kolona beach! The road is difficult to drive through as it allows for one vehicle to pass at a time with few spots to accommodate two vehicles from the opposite directions if they meet. Kolona is a strip of beach with fine golden sand, with sea on both sides, one side warm sea water while the other side is cool sea water, while it gradually deepens. There is a beach bar and a restaurant there!
On the way to the port of Merichas from Chora, there is the beach of Episkopi with fine sand inside and out, gradually deepening, ideal for children, with an organized beach bar called Pundaki!
